New Dancers

The Capital Squares square dance club dances at both Mainstream and Plus levels on Tuesdays nights, four times each month, all year long. Each week we have five to six squares square dancing, as well as having fun line dancing and socializing.

Greg Jones Greg Jones, who has many years of experience as a caller, calls for our club and for several other clubs in the area. He has recorded on Platinum Records and calls for a number of square dance events in and around North Carolina. Greg is a great instructor who calls fun, entertaining dances and who really excels at singing calls.

In addition to square dancing, we have line dancing twice a month. Our line dance leader is Dianne Brown. Dianne also has years of experience and leads at many other events.

Visiting square dancers are welcome to join us for occasional free visits. Club members each pay $14 per month to cover costs.

The club host open houses with refreshments and free dancing for anyone interested in learning more about square dancing. Square dancing is a couples activity. A square is four couples. Many square dance calls direct half of the couple to do some specific move such as "ladies trade", "men circulate", "men star right" or "four ladies chain". Therefore it is strongly recommended that new dancers come with a partner.

The club sponsors a series of beginners’ square dance classes. Each week you learn two or three new calls as well as review the previous calls. After a year you will be introduced to 100 calls. As with any new skill, the more you practice, the more masterful you dance.

We invite you to consider joining us in square dancing with Capital Squares. View our Introduction to Square Dance page and Links to square dance instructions on our Links page.
